POSEC Time Management

POSEC stands for Prioritizing by Organizing, Streamlining, Economizing and Contributing. The main way to do this is by taking a closer look at what you must do on a daily basis, and figuring out the best way to manage these tasks.



By using POSEC method, many people have found that by dissecting your goals and tasks into small projects, it enables you to prioritize better. Through POSEC accomplishing your individual dissected tasks will make the rest of your goals attainable. The POSEC method works. for others it may not.



The POSEC method of time management offers guidelines for helping the individual put their goals in order of importance. As a result, proper execution would cause upward movement on Maslow's "Needs Hierarchy."



The following steps constitute the POSEC method of time management.



Prioritize - Define your tasks according to your goals and prioritize your allocation of time. This means to tackle your daily tasks in order of importance so as to create personal efficiency and team effectiveness. The POSEC method of time management is loosely based on the Maslow's hierarchy of needs.



Organize- Giving an orderly structure to the goals one has to accomplish regularly. By doing so, one gains a feeling of security and freedom by meeting the most basic needs such as food, shelter, and clothing among others. Other tasks may include daily tasks such as punctuality during meetings, administrative tasks, and organizing your desk to more easily access necessary equipment.



Streamline - Streamlining is generally used in reference to daily tasks that one is not always eager to do, but must nevertheless be completed. Dishwashing, cleaning, and other household chores are examples of such tasks. Making such work simpler and faster by streamlining leads to higher efficiency and quality of work.



Economize - Budgeting your time involves those things you need to do eventually, or would like to do now, but are not urgently needed. Budgeting would include learning a new skill, engaging in projects you like taking part in, and devoting some of your days to "me time," in addition to others. These jobs are too often at the tail end of our list of what is important.



Contribute - there are many ways to make a positive contribution. One should be aware of works whose fruits are not seen immediately, but that have much positive effect over the long term. Love, kindness, mercy, thoughtfulness and other related acts are examples of such contributions to the well being of the world as a whole, and especially to humanity. Maslow's explanation of the motivation for contributing acts takes social setting into account when considering how one gives back to the world, thus making achievement of goals more realistic.
